There is a big, creepy guy whom everyone fears. When children are killed, he is the natural suspect. In the end, you feel sorry for the awkward, misunderstood, and, apparently, innocent monster, killed by a mob without sufficient evidence, because he is big and scary. He will now roam Savannnah forever, frightened, seeking vindication. Here is one of the several articles where I have run across it spelled both ways.
https://www.connectsavannah.com/savannah/savannah-ghosts-blending-history-with-mystery/Content?oid=2154628

Since he is suspected of having not existed, the technical, correct spelling of his name hasn't been pinned down either. I used the above spelling based on a succession of articles I found with that spelling. Not incorrect either, especially given we think this person is a legend and his name was passed down orally rather than in true, written form. The Professorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06899010075470919586noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2960414577715729011.post-62377920416389223362017-10-28T10:28:01.971-04:002017-10-28T10:28:01.971-04:00Perhaps spelling the name correctly might help? I can't say he existed because I haven't personally done the research but you won't get far by spelling it incorrectly.
